About this deal

Though the title was never officialled renamed, editors rebranded the Caped Crusader's solo title as Batman: The New Adventures. Before undergoing surgery meant to remove both his disfigurement and his alternate personality, Two-Face/Harvey Dent is kidnapped by persons unknown. While not only about Jason Todd and his becoming the second Robin, this was a collection full of second chances. He begins his run with the first chapter in an ongoing story where Batman is hunting down a serial killer.

Death and suicide are recurring themes in Starlin's work: Personifications of Death appeared in his Captain Marvel series and in a fill-in story for Ghost Rider; Warlock commits suicide by killing his future self; and suicide is a theme in a story he plotted and drew for The Rampaging Hulk magazine. Jo Duffy pens a decent one-off about a set of samurai armor that seems to come to life; it’s illustrated nicely by Kieron Dwyer and Mike DeCarlo. No, I'm not talking about Jason Todd's origin story, or the issue where Nightwing confronts Batman about his hypocrisy in firing one sidekick and immediately finding another. There was one thing clear from these tales, Jason was written in a way that made him not liked by the fans. What is fun about the collection is seeing the character of Jason Todd get a re-written to after the DC line reboot.BATMAN – SECOND CHANCES represents a second chance for my comics stories on that character to be reappraised, and I’m pleased to have these stories gathered in one place. A woman Bruce Wayne meets becomes his next victim, which sparks his drive to find and take down the man. Genre superhero Characters Batman [Bruce Wayne]; Robin [Jason Todd]; Alfred Pennyworth; Commissioner James Gordon; Tommy Carma [as Batman] (villain); Howard Desmond; Mrs. Though some of the ideas that Collin’s put forth were good and ended up becoming iconic (Like Jason’s new origin) the stories themselves fall flat and the Starlin tales are a clear upgrade. In theory this collects most of the Post-Crisis issues of Batman before those collected in the Caped Crusader volumes.

The other stories included, especially the ones showing some of Jason's run as Robin, just added to my enjoyment of the collection. When Batman goes into action on his own and meets a young hoodlum named Jason Todd, he's determined to guide Jason away from a life of crime. Inside the hospital, the doctors tell Harvey that his bad side has been mostly submerged and they believe that if they remove the scars that created Two-Face, the persona will be gone forever.I originally skipped it on my first read through since I intend to read the event sometime in the future, but went back for this review. Most of my comic reading stems from Silver Age fare from Marvel and 2000s era books from both companies. Robin learns of the villain’s connection to his father and goes out seeking revenge while Batman plays to the boy’s better angels and succeeds. Job Number G-3090 Genre superhero Characters Batman [Bruce Wayne]; Robin [Jason Todd]; Penguin [Oswald Cobblepot]; Dovina Partridge; Commissioner James Gordon Synopsis Batman interferes with the Penguin's love life. The next two chapters, "The Sound of Silence" and "The Ghost of Masahiko Tahara" are amusing-enough standalones that don't add much to the emotional through-line of the new Dynamic Duo, other than dramatizing their nascent partnership as an increasingly effective association.

Job Number G-3220 Genre superhero Characters Batman [Bruce Wayne]; Robin [Jason Todd]; Alfred Pennyworth; Kay Doran (reporter); Yoshio Tahara; Dr. The story where Dick is at the museum with his school and Bruce is there as an investor and the worlds collide is great, I thought it was a cute side story on their inner-workings and on them developing as a team. Now, I probably quit about fifteen seconds before I would have been fired…but I beat ‘em to the punch. I can't help but wonder if a crisis event or something similar happened in between those, allowing us to get this new and improved origin story. The issues are interrupted by Year One which makes things a bit funny in regard to Jason’s timeline.I liked seeing Dick interacting with Jason, hearing how Dick had to overcome his own inner demons and doubts after Robin was taken away from him, and watching him confront Bruce over the matter. In the mid-1970s, Starlin contributed a cache of stories to the independently published science-fiction anthology Star Reach.
