Start out at Durham on Gilesgate. At the Gilesgate roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A690 (signposted Sunderland). At roundabout take the 1st exit, then join the A1(M) (signposted Newcastle). Continue on the A1(M) past the Washington Service Area. At Junction 65 continue forward onto the A1 (signposted Newcastle, Gateshead). Pass the Angel of the North. Follow the A1 until the junction with the A692. Branch left, then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A692 (signposted Consett). Continue along the A692 through Sunniside and Byermoor until Burnopfield. Just after the Pack Horse, turn right onto the B6310 Front Street, pass the Sun Inn on the left. Turn left onto Birch Crescent (the street name sign reads ‘leading to Birch Crescent’). 100 yards on your right is 9 East View.
